How do Neurotoxin Injections work?

When injected into a muscle, neurotoxins block the nerve response and temporarily immobilize it. When neurotoxins are used on muscles that control facial expression, such as the corrugator supercilii muscle of the forehead, and the periorbital muscles around the eyes, it puts them in a state of relaxation, causing wrinkles to be less noticeable.

What can you expect with Neurotoxin Injections? 

Neurotoxin cosmetic procedures are quick – no anesthesia required. Injections are administered with an ultra-fine needle, directly into the area being treated. Discomfort is minimal and brief. Patients are able to return directly to work and can resume normal daily activity immediately following treatment.

What areas can be treated with Neurotoxin Injections?

Neurotoxin treatments can be performed on a number of locations, including between your brows, forehead, eye area, smile lines, chin, neck and underarm. Effects of the neurotoxins appear within a few days and generally last from 4-6 months.

How long do Neurotoxin Injections take?

Depending on the area being treated and the amount of neurotoxin needed, treatments will typically last 30 minutes to 1 hour.

What are the side effects of Neurotoxin Injections?

Although rare, neurotoxin treatments can cause temporary side effects such as headaches, indigestion, drooping eyelids or nausea. However, the possibility of these side effects is greatly lessened if aftercare instructions are carefully followed. Your Registered Nurse will explain any other risks that may be associated with the treatment before starting the procedure.

Are there any Neurotoxin Injection aftercare instructions?

After your treatment, your Registered Nurse will go through aftercare instructions, which will maximize your treatment benefits and avoid any undesirable side effects. We advise our patients to remain upright for at least 4 hours and to avoid strenuous activity for 24 hours, so that the neurotoxin has had a chance to set. After this time period, patients should be able to resume all normal activity.
